World premiere of the new film by Bosnian director Danis Tanović “After the Summer” will open the 30th Sarajevo Film Festival.
The film will be simultaneously screened in Sarajevo on Friday, August 16th at the National Theatre, Coca-Cola Summer Cinema, Stari Grad Summer Cinema, and Centar “Safet Zajko” Summer Cinema. Its premiere will also mark the beginning of Sarajevo Film Festival screenings in Mostar – at the BH Telecom Summer Cinema Mostar, and in Tuzla – at the Bingo Summer Cinema Tuzla.
“After the Summer” is a comedy-drama about a young woman who comes to a remote island to resolve a family inheritance issue. In the whirlwind of newly arising emotions, through a series of unforeseen situations, Maja will finally confront questions from her past. The search for inheritance becomes a search for her own identity, as well as forgiveness.
Danis Tanović is a multiple award-winning director, screenwriter, and producer. His film “No Man's Land” (2001), for which he also wrote the script, won an Oscar® and a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film. He is a two-time winner of the Silver Bear at the Berlin Film Festival for the films “An Episode in the Life of an Iron Picker” (2013) and “Death in Sarajevo” (2016).
He received the Honorary Heart of Sarajevo from the Sarajevo Film Festival in 2014 as a recognition for his outstanding contribution to the film industry and support of the Sarajevo Film Festival.
The film “After the Summer” was produced by Propeler Film (Croatia), in co-production with Tangaj Production (Romania), Obala Art Centar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Baš Čelik (Serbia), and Tramal Films (Slovenia).
The cast includes Anja Matković, Uliks Fehmiu, Goran Navojec, Mario Knezović, Marija Škaričić, Mirela Brekalo, Snježana Sinovčić, Luka Juričić, Boris Ler, Ivana Roščić, Jadranka Matković, and many others. The script was written by Anja Matković, Nikola Kuprešanin, and Danis Tanović. The director of photography is Miloš Jaćimović, production designer is Veronika Radman, editor is Redžinald Šimek, costume designer is Dubravka Skvrce, and makeup artist is Silvija Bradica.
The producers are Lana Matić, Boris T. Matić, Jelena Mitrović, Srdan Golubović, Mirsad Purivatra, Jovan Marjanović, Anamaria Antoci, Miha Černec, and Jožko Rutar.
The film was made with the support of the Croatian Audiovisual Center, the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Canton Sarajevo, the Sarajevo Film Fund, the Romanian Film Center, the Serbian Film Center, the Slovenian Film Center, and the MEDIA Subprogram of the Creative Europe Program for project development, as well as in co-production with BH Telecom.
The 30th Sarajevo Film Festival will take place from August 16th to 23rd, 2024.
